During the winter of 2000, the Town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia
sought assistance in choosing colours for tiles in a new public facility.
A suggestion that childrens' art be used to decorate some of the tiles
gave birth to a school project involving parents, artists,
and students from
grades 2 through 7.

During eight after-school workshop sessions, the students painted a total of 40 tiles depicting historic Lunenburg's architecture.
Their efforts were guided by several local artists who assisted in the painting and under glazing. The tiles were fired in local pottery studios and then installed in the new public washroom located at the
western end of Bluenose Drive.

The tiles reproduced on these cards commemorate this special project
and celebrate the young artists who, with enthusiasm
and naive talent, brought it to completion.
